Having Fun with Chalk Paint and StencilGirl Stencils

Standard

What’s all the talk about chalk paint lately?  I needed to find out for myself and you’re coming along with me.

Ok, can I just say that I’ve been meaning to create some sort of “TO DO” board for a while now.  This is how I post my actions now….

What up with that?  It needs to get out of my head and on a list, I know that much. So, let’s change it up.

Here is one of my art supply cabinets.  Nice open wide space on the door.  Enter black chalk paint.  I used a “Folkart” chalk paint.  I painted the section with 3 coats, drying well in between.  If I were to do this again, I would gesso it first, then add the chalk paint because the cabinet was not very porous. But, it worked out fine as you will see.

Enter stencils from StencilGirl.  I first started with the Boxed Vines stencil by Cecilia Swanton

I wanted to get a border of these lovely vines around my chalk board. Of course, I’m using Cobalt Teal for the first acrylic paint. I have to be honest, I started to use chalk to rub into the stencil… bad choice. It was icky.  The chalk scraped on the design openings and made dust all over the place. I decided to use acrylic paint. What’s the worst that can happen? I paint over it.  No biggie.

Next up was a stencil by Jessica Sporn called Flowers, Pomegranates and Leaves

Let’s put some flowers and leaves on, too.  Now, I’ve switched to Amsterdam acrylic paints.

Now, let’s test the chalk on the paint.  Ok, first, can I just say that I did not have one piece of chalk in my house.  All I wanted was on little piece of white chalk. I ended up with a big box of sidewalk chalk I had to buy at the dollar store. I think I have enough to last me a while now.  Look at those big suckers, below.

I have to say this stuff really works.  Write on, wipe off. As you can see, I had a little fun with my to do list and some doodles.

Tomorrow, I will make a more serious to do list (ya, right). Well, at least it’s there when I have to spill my thoughts.
Maybe I’ll do another section on my cabinet just for inspirational quotes.

So, there you have it. Chalk paint and stencils. Lots of fun.. give it a try.

Thanks for stopping by and all your support. It means everything to me. You’re the best.

Long weekend coming up; hope you have some fun plans or just plan to relax.
